SUMMARY

Twenty- four children with bone tumors are presented; these patients have been treated in the Ricardo Gutierrez Children's Hospital between 1991 and 2001 and have been followed for one to ten years. They are sixteen girls and eight boys, and their average age is 11.6 three the youngest and seventeen the oldest. The follow up was between 14 and 116 months.

The histological diagnosis were: 18 osteosarcomas, 4 Ewing's sarcomas, 1 malignant fibrohistiocytoma and 1 Giant Cells Tumor (GCT).

The localizations were: 4 in the humerus, 3 in the proximal tibia and 17 in the femur (two proximal and 15 distal ones). The stages were as follows: 21 II B, 2 III and the GCT, I B (three stage of Campanacci ). In all the cases limb salvage surgery was performed, and a non conventional Fabroni endoprosthesis (NCFE) was used, in eight cases with an extension mechanism .

For the presurgical stadification and the functional evaluation the methods used were those described by Enneking and the Musculoskeletal Tumors Society (MSTS) respectively.
